ABOUT FLORIDA THEATRE

The Florida Theatre is a 1,900-seat historic theatre located in downtown Jacksonville, Florida that first opened its doors on April 8, 1927 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Florida Theatre Performing Arts Center, Inc. is the nonprofit corporation founded in 1987 to manage, program and preserve the historic Florida Theatre in a public/private partnership with the City of Jacksonville, which owns the building.

We are registered as a 501(3)(c) private nonprofit organization.

MISSION

Our mission, as a nonprofit organization, is to enhance the North Florida community’s quality of life by providing diverse and memorable arts and entertainment experiences, and by preserving a unique historic Jacksonville landmark.

To be the most welcoming venue in the North Florida community providing memorable experiences for our audiences and artists.

From the acts on our stage, to the team behind the scenes, to the public that we serve, the Florida Theatre is committed to diversity and inclusion and we seek to reflect that commitment by ensuring that all of our stakeholders are treated equitably, and feel included, engaged and valued.

NATIVE LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Florida Theatre Performing Arts Center, Inc., the nonprofit corporation that manages and programs the historic Florida Theatre, acknowledges that the Florida Theatre sits on the unceded homelands of the Mocama (Timucua), Yamasee, and Guale peoples. For thousands of years, their ancestors made this region a center of Indigenous spiritual power, diplomacy, exchange, and kinship. We recognize the historical and ongoing impact of colonization on the Indigenous people of our region and state. Today, Florida is home to the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, and other citizens of Native nations and communities whose ancestors include Mocamas, Yamasees, and Guales. We give a standing ovation to salute the Elders past and present, the caretakers of this land for innumerable generations.
