The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens will lead the charge in recruiting year-round, long-term adult volunteers and interns who serve 6 to 12-week rotations seasonally for departments across the zoo.
You'll be responsible for designing, scheduling, planning, facilitating, posting internships, onboarding, and staff training on the program's best engaging practices. Our volunteers and interns are an integral part of the organization and creating communication avenues for engagement is key. The role creates and maintains content for the quarterly volunteer newsletter and social media posts which include articles about our events, programs, opportunities, and milestones.
This role requires flexibility to provide critical thinking with logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems in a fast-paced environment. You are ready for this role with a year of administrative support and over two years of experience with customer service. You are proficient with Microsoft Office and other software programs to maintain volunteer database records, record keeping, and communication.

Do you have...
- Availability to work a schedule Tuesday through Saturday?
- Two (2) years of experience in customer service, retail, event planning, or a related field?
- One (1) year of providing administrative support towards planning and execution of meetings, events, or conferences?
- Ability to pass a Level 2 background check?
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365?
- High school diploma and/or equivalent?
- Ability to maintain a valid driver's license and eighteen years (18) of age with a clear driving record?
- Ability to be successful in a fast-paced environment and in large crowds?
- Ability to respond to problems and to assist clients with a calm, courteous, and helpful manner, and attitude.
- Ability to train staff and volunteers to provide high quality guest service?
- Availability to work special events that occur outside of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, as assigned?
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to access and navigate each department at the organization on foot and operate a motorized cart.
- Ability to work with a variety of animals including invertebrates, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time and traverse zoo grounds on foot.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to transport, lift and move items up to 25 pounds occasionally without difficulty.
- Ability to consistently speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication with a public audience.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, stoop, bend, lift and prolonged standing/sitting.
- Visual and auditory acuity appropriate for animal care, safety and to discern differences for computer screens, documents and/or labels.
- Able to consistently speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation, public speaking, and general communication with of public audiences.
- Auditory acuity for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, two-way radio, and face-to-face interactions.
